Meet Tina, our Regional Engagement Lead for the Island and North
Tina joined our team in May 2016 as the Regional Engagement Lead for Vancouver Island. Since then, she has been responsible for recruiting, on-boarding, and supporting over 200 volunteers in that region. More recently, she took over the lead of REL for the North too!
When I saw the posting for this job, I just knew I had to apply. I had spent many years in a long term care home visiting my Mom, who had early onset Alzheimer’s disease. I was very familiar with the setting and then when I saw that I would be working with volunteers, that was the icing on the cake. I love working with volunteers and have done many years of volunteer management, both in health care and in politics. It was a perfect fit!
When I’m not working on this project, I am writing poetry and am the current Poet Laureate for Nanaimo. I have two books of poetry published and love how poetry can connect so quickly to the heart. I also love to garden and have an acre of land where I can garden and play for hours on end.
I have been inspired this last year working with so many amazing volunteers who have brought their talents and caring to the role of Volunteer Interviewers. Their level of commitment and professionalism constantly surprised me and I was ever so grateful for this, given the nature of my territory and the fact that I couldn’t be everywhere at once. I had to rely on them and they never let me down. I have also had the pleasure of working with such a strong team across the province and I know we couldn’t have done it without everyone’s tireless commitment and humour. We have had changes along the way, but everyone has been supportive in getting the job done. And we are so close now, thanks to everyone, both staff and especially volunteers!
